Our Governors

On behalf of the Governors, welcome to Field End Junior School.  Our priority is to focus on what really matters -  the education, happiness and development of every child at our school.

Our role is to work closely with our Headteacher and leadership team to support the school by:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Holding  the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

Our governors come from a variety of backgrounds and include parents, staff and members of the local community. We are all volunteers and meet together every term as a Full Governing Board. We also have committees to oversee Teaching, Learning and Safeguarding, Personnel and Resources. We also come into school regularly to spend time with the children and staff, listening to their opinions and sharing in their successes.

Governors are available at every Parents Evening for parents to discuss any concerns.

We always welcome feedback and suggestions from parents and children and this can be sent to us via the School Office.

parent governor vacancies

Dear Parent/Carer

Parent Governor Election

I  am writing to you to invite you to stand for election as a parent on the local governing body of Field End Junior School.  The school has vacancies for two parent governors.  No special qualifications are needed, and the most important thing is to have a keen interest in the school and be prepared to play an active part in the local governing body’s work.  The governors’ page on the school website has the following information:
  • Letter inviting parent governor nominations (this letter)
  • Information sheet for potential parent governors
  • Vanguard Learning Trust local governor role description
  • Parent governor nomination form spring term 2023
If you are interested in applying to be a parent governor please contact me to arrange to meet with Carolyn Morrissey, chair of governors, and me to discuss the role.  You can do this by email at jbeater@vlt.org.uk or via the school on 0208 866 8752.
The next step in the process is to complete the nomination form which is available to download from the school website and return to me at jbeater@vlt.org.uk. Paper copies of the nomination form are also available from the school’s reception.   Nomination forms may be typewritten or handwritten.
All nominations must be seconded, and all nominated candidates and their seconders must have pupils on the school register on the closing date for receipt of nominations.  Self-nominations will be accepted but if you are nominating another parent, please seek their prior consent.
All nominations must be received by 12 noon on Monday 27th March 2023.

Details about the procedure following the closing date for receipt of nominations can be found in the ‘Information sheet for potential parent governors’ on the governors’ page of the school website.
If you have any questions about this letter or about the election process please contact me at jbeater@vlt.org.uk or via the school on 0208 866 8752.
Yours sincerely
