The National Curriculum at Field End Junior School

At Field End Junior School we have developed an exciting, engaging and purposeful curriculum that is relevant to our children.

We follow a topic based approach with each topic linked to our core three values, Respect, Responsibility and Readiness.

These topics are led by a driver subject which could be either science, geography, history, art, computing or design and technology, supported by two other of these subjects.

Each topic incorporates a trip or a talk by a visitor to engage the children and culminates in an 'Outcome' to draw the learning of the topic to its conclusion.  Parents are often invited to these in order for the chidren to be able to share their learning and achievements.

Through all our learning, children are taught to challenge and stretch themselves and develop the skills to be independent, curious learners.

We do not set children according to our perception of their ability, but rather teach them to recognise how much they are able to achieve.  Through this approach, our children learn to see their potential and strive to achieve it, but also recognise when they are finding learning challenging and need more support and guidance.

Children receive daily English and mathematics sessions following the National Curriculum for Key Stage 2.  We look for every opportunity to enhance the teaching of English (and sometimes maths) by using our creative topics as a stimulus.
